Because our children need more than academics to thrive — they need tools for life.

Social Emotional Learning

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is a lifelong process of developing the skills we all need to thrive in all areas of life. SEL helps students build emotional intelligence, strengthen communication, create healthy relationships, navigate life’s challenges, and make thoughtful, values-driven decisions. (CASEL, n.d.)

Why SEL Matters

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) helps students become confident, compassionate, and resilient Muslims grounded in their values, prepared for life, and ready to lead with integrity and purpose. Research and lived experience show that SEL leads to:

  • Improved academic performance

  • Better emotional regulation and stress management

  • Increased confidence and motivation

  • Stronger sense of belonging

  • Fewer behavior challenges

  • Lifelong tools for success in college, careers, relationships, and faith

(CASEL, n.d.)

SEL at ISN

At Islamic Schools Network (ISN), SEL is a core part of our academic and spiritual vision. Rooted in Islamic principles and inspired by the Prophetic model, our SEL curriculum helps students grow in five key areas that support success in this life and the next.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) at ISN is not just a weekly class. It is a whole-school approach. We intentionally weave social-emotional learning into:

  • Classroom instruction

  • Dedicated SEL classes

  • Positive student-teacher relationships

  • School policies, routines, and expectations

  • Ongoing communication with families

  • Community events and student leadership opportunities

Together, we are raising a generation that leads with wisdom, faith, and compassion.
